Budget 2026: RM2.2 billion allocated for new, ongoing flood mitigation; plus slope, drainage maintenance

Today’s tabling of Budget 2026 by prime minister and finance minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim brought the announcement that the Malaysian government has allocated RM2.2 billion for the implementation of new and ongoing flood mitigation projects.

This consists of 43 ongoing high-priority flood mitigation projects, as well as 12 new flood mitigation projects which are to commence next year. These are:

  • RTB Sungai Mengkibol, Mukim Kluang, Kluang, Johor
  • RTB Sungai Chaah, Segamat, Johor
  • RTB Sungai Temin/Bata, Kubang Pasu, Kedah
  • RTB Sungai Lenggeng, Seremban, Negeri Sembilan
  • RTB Sungai Gemencheh, Tampin, Negeri Sembilan
  • RTB Sungai Jimah Fasa 2, Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan
  • RTB Sungai Si Rusa, Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan
  • RTB Sungai Nyiur, Seberang Perai Utara, Pulau Pinang
  • RTB Sungai Trong, Larut, Matang Dan Selama, Perak
  • RTB Sungai Buloh Fasa 2, Selangor
  • RTB Sungai Buaya, Kuala Nerus, Terengganu
  • RTB Anak Sungai Ibai, Kuala Terengganu, Terengganu

Further mitigation measures to be carried out concurrently include the allocation of over RM260 million for maintenance, repairs and preventive measures on slopes nationwide, including those along federal roads, while RM55 million is allocated for the cleaning and upgrading of drainage under the purview of local authorities.
