In today’s tabling of Budget 2026 by Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, the PM and finance minister announced an allocation of over RM48 billion for highways and road infrastructure in Sabah and Sarawak.
The big allocation includes the Pan Borneo Highway, which spans both states. According to Anwar, nine packages in the Sarawak section of the Pan Borneo are fully completed and open to the public. Up north in Sabah, four packages in ‘Fasa 1A’ are completed. In 2026, RM1.67 billion have been allocated to Pan Borneo Sabah for the project to be implemented according to schedule.
The Sarawak-Sabah Link Road (SSLR) Fasa 1 is expected to be completed in November 2026, while SSLR 2 is under construction and is expected to be completed by the middle of 2029. Also, the Lebuhraya Trans Borneo (LTB) project completes the connecting route between Sabah and Sarawak.
Elsewhere, the Madani government will upgrade the ‘red line’ road at the Durin and Salim, Sibu section in Sarawak with the cost of RM350 million.
