Touch ‘n Go eWallet operator TNG Digital has introduced a cross-border EV charger roaming feature in the app, in partnership with Voltality – a subsidiary of F&B payments specialist Beep. The service allows users to locate, access and pay for chargers across networks in Malaysia and Singapore via a single app.
Payments are automatically deducted from the eWallet, of course, so you won’t have to input other methods such as credit and debit cards. Any unutilised balance is credited back to the said eWallet.
It should be noted that the app currently only shows a limited amount of chargers in Malaysia, with starting participating charge point operators (CPOs) including KINETA, EVlution, Zura Charge, Charge+, RExharge, Powered By Rise and JusEV Charging Network. Notably, this list is missing the big four – JomCharge, ChargEV, Gentari and DC Handal.
The company does say that support for more operators is in the pipeline to improve coverage and convenience. On the Singapore side, the eWallet works with chargers from SP Mobility, CDG Engie, EV Mobility and MNL Asia, contributing greatly to the total of over 6,000 charge points across 1,700 locations.
“As EV adoption grows in Malaysia, many drivers still juggle multiple apps just to charge and pay. We’re removing that friction,” said TNG Digital CEO Alan Ni. “This one-of-its-kind in-app integration gives EV drivers a unified experience across networks, all through one app.”
The company adds that the launch of the roaming service is in support of Malaysia’s goal to install 10,000 EV charging stations by 2025, as part of the government’s Low Carbon Mobility Blueprint (LCMB) 2021–
2030. Over 4,100 charging points have already been installed as of September, it continued.
