YouTube has introduced a daily timer feature for its mobile platform, allowing users to set a customizable limit on their Shorts viewing. This tool pauses the Shorts feed for the day once the limit is met as part of an effort to promote healthier digital habits.
When a user reaches their self-imposed time limit, access to the continuous Shorts feed is suspended until the next day. While the main feed is blocked, users retain the ability to watch individual Shorts videos accessed through other means on the platform, such as direct links or channel pages.
This timer expands upon YouTube’s existing “Take a Break” reminder, which already applies to regular-length videos. The feature was developed to address concerns surrounding the “endless scrolling” format and the potential for social media addiction associated with short-form video consumption.
