Google is integrating its \u201cNano Banana\u201d AI image-editing model into the Google Messages application. Evidence discovered within the app\u2019s code indicates the planned introduction of AI-powered image generation features for personal and group chats.<\/p>\n

The Nano Banana model, an update to Google\u2019s image-editing technology, has been noted for its ability to maintain subject likeness across multiple generated images. Following its release, Google added the model to Google Search\u2019s AI Mode and to Google Lens. The company is also working to bring the functionality to Google Photos, and this expansion now appears to include its messaging service.<\/p>\n

Specific evidence was identified by Android Authority within the code of Google Messages version v20251009, pointing to the introduction of the Nano Banana feature set. A user interface element was enabled that shows a \u201cBanana icon\u201d appearing in the header area. This icon becomes visible when a user long-presses an image inside a personal or group conversation.<\/p>\n

Currently, the Banana icon is inactive and does not perform any action.
