{"id":49839,"date":"2026-05-01T06:21:45","date_gmt":"2026-05-01T06:21:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/agooka.com\/news\/usa\/openais-president-says-ai-has-gone-from-writing-20-to-80-of-your-code\/"},"modified":"2026-05-01T06:21:45","modified_gmt":"2026-05-01T06:21:45","slug":"openais-president-says-ai-has-gone-from-writing-20-to-80-of-your-code","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/agooka.com\/news\/usa\/openais-president-says-ai-has-gone-from-writing-20-to-80-of-your-code\/","title":{"rendered":"OpenAI&#8217;s president says AI has gone from writing 20% to &#8216;80% of your code&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i.insider.com\/69f42f429a23d20d291b5477?format=jpeg\" alt=\"Greg Brockman\"\/><figcaption>Greg Brockman says that AI is writing most code at companies today.<\/p>\n<p>Bloomberg\/Getty Images<\/p>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<ul>\n<li>AI tools can now generate up to 80% of code, said OpenAI&#039;s president.<\/li>\n<li>Greg Brockman said that AI has become more than a small supporting tool for software engineers.<\/li>\n<li>Tech leaders predict that AI will soon write a majority of their company&#039;s code.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>AI coding tools have rapidly advanced in recent months, says OpenAI&#039;s president.<\/p>\n<p>At a Sequoia Capital talk uploaded Thursday, Greg Brockman said that AI has become more than just a supporting tool for software engineers.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;If you look even over the course of December, we went from these agentic coding tools writing 20% of your code to writing 80% of your code,&quot; Brockman said. &quot;Which means they go from being kind of a sideshow to being the main thing that you&#039;re doing.&quot;<\/p>\n<p>Brockman, who cofounded the AI company in 2015, said he would advise founders to &quot;lean in&quot; and embrace AI tools because they&#039;re making rapid strides.<\/p>\n<p>For example, he said, Codex \u2014 OpenAI&#039;s code-generation platform \u2014 has recently evolved from a tool primarily for software engineers to one that can support &quot;anyone who&#039;s doing work with a computer.&quot;<\/p>\n<p>Still, Brockman said OpenAI ensures that a human is responsible for all code that is merged.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;That thoughtfulness of not just saying &#039;oh just blindly use&#039; this or &#039;we don&#039;t want to use this at all.&#039; I think neither extreme is quite right,&quot; he said about AI-generated code.<\/p>\n<h2>AI&#039;s rapidly growing role in writing code<\/h2>\n<p>Brockman is part of a group of tech leaders touting AI&#039;s ability to generate a large chunk of a company&#039;s code.<\/p>\n<p>Last month, Google CEO Sundar Pichai said that 75% of new code created inside the company is now generated by AI and reviewed by human engineers.<\/p>\n<p>That figure has risen rapidly in recent years, from 25% in 2024 to 50% last year.<\/p>\n<p>Meta is looking to make headway in this area as well.<\/p>\n<p>In March, Business Insider reported that Meta expected 65% of engineers in its creation organization \u2014 responsible for building and maintaining core creative experiences \u2014 to write more than 75% of their committed code using AI.<\/p>\n<p>Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei has also predicted how much code AI will generate.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;I think we will be there in three to six months, where AI is writing 90% of the code.
