Thai police have charged a train driver with negligence following an accident on Saturday in central Bangkok, where a freight train collided with a passenger bus at a railway crossing, killing eight people and injuring 32 others. This was reported by Reuters, according to UNN.<\/p>\n
\nThe train driver is charged with negligence causing death, as evidence clearly points to reckless actions that led to the fatal consequences,<\/p>\n
– Makkasan Police Station Chief Urumporn Kundeisumrit told Reuters.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
He added that the bus driver will also be charged; however, he is currently undergoing medical treatment and cannot be questioned, so official charges have not yet been filed.<\/p>\n
Investigators are also examining whether additional charges can be brought.<\/p>\n

On Saturday, a freight train crashed into a bus that had stopped on the tracks at a red light, sparking a fire that engulfed the vehicle and dragged several nearby cars along the tracks.<\/p>\n
The accident site has already been cleared and traffic has resumed, while authorities plan to strengthen safety measures and oversight to prevent a recurrence of such incidents, said Deputy Transport Minister Siripong Angkasakulkiat.<\/p>\n
Passengers noted that they had long feared a collision, as vehicles continued to pass through the crossing despite warning signals.<\/p>\n
