The European Union sees no reason to consider Belarus as a possible mediator in peace negotiations regarding the war in Ukraine, as there is "zero trust" in Alexander Lukashenko's regime. This was stated by a European Commission spokesperson during a briefing, commenting on Lukashenko's statements about his desire to meet with President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and join the peace process, UNN reports.<\/p>\n
\nAs for trust in the Lukashenko regime \u2013 there is zero trust, so it makes no sense to even comment on the issue of mediation and the pursuit of a long-lasting and just peace in Ukraine,<\/p>\n
\u2013 the EU representative stated.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
The European Union emphasized that Belarus continues to support Russian aggression against Ukraine and carry out provocative actions against EU countries.<\/p>\n
\nWe have seen how the Lukashenko regime continues to support Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine. Furthermore, Belarus has intensified its provocative actions against the EU and its member states \u2013 from incursions into our airspace to the instrumentalization of migration,<\/p>\n
\u2013 the European Commission stated.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
Brussels also recalled that it was precisely because of these actions that the EU imposed sanctions against the Belarusian regime and is ready for new restrictions.<\/p>\n
\nThat is why the EU has introduced sanctions against the Lukashenko regime and is ready for further restrictive measures as long as the Belarusian authorities continue such activities,<\/p>\n
\u2013 the spokesperson noted.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
Separately, the EU commented on the joint military exercises between Russia and Belarus involving a nuclear component.<\/p>\n
\nWe have seen what Russia is capable of. We call on all parties to refrain from nuclear threats and avoid actions that could provoke further problems in the region. We remain vigilant regarding any potential security threats related to the military exercises of these two actors,<\/p>\n
