All MBPJ ‘sewa khas’ reserved parking bays for businesses will be valid for 24 hours next year

Petaling Jaya residents and workers, take note. Reserved parking bays in front of businesses will be valid for 24 hours next year. Currently, these ‘sewa khas’ lots are free game after 6.30 pm as well as on weekends and public holidays.

This was announced by mayor Mohamad Zahri Samingon at a special meeting for MBPJ’s Budget 2026 yesterday. He said that 1,000 reserved parking bays would be converted and an additional 54 existing ‘blue line’ bays would be repainted red, reported by The Star.

Currently, parking lots that are painted with blue lines are 24-hour spaces, but that will soon be phased out – all reserved bays will be 24 hours and painted in red. The mayor said that there will be 1,054 reserved parking bays designated for 24-hour use in MBPJ’s jurisdiction, and the bays will be rented out at RM400 a month.

What do you think of this move by MBPJ? Non-business owners are likely to view this negatively, as street parking is already very limited in popular commercial areas, but shop owners and tenants that open after office hours – such as F&B establishments – might welcome the plan.
