YouTube Music implements paywall for full song lyrics

Google has rolled out a paywall for lyrics on YouTube Music, restricting free users to five songs per month after initial testing in September limited the feature to Premium subscribers.

YouTube Music accounts now face this limitation based on multiple user accounts. The change began as a test in September, confining full lyrics access to Premium users only.

The wider rollout now applies to all free accounts. Users can view complete lyrics for exactly five songs each month. After reaching this cap, only the first couple of lines of any additional song’s lyrics remain visible, while the rest appear blurred out.

Upon hitting the limit, free users receive a prompt stating “Unlock lyrics with Premium.” A prominent banner displays on the lyrics tab, indicating the number of remaining lyric views along with a countdown timer.
