Apple Music adds transparency tags for AI-generated content

Apple Music will add metadata tags to distinguish AI-generated or AI-assisted content.

The new metadata options aim to increase transparency regarding the use of artificial intelligence in music content uploaded to the platform. This development could impact how record labels and distributors categorize their releases.

The changes were communicated to industry partners in a newsletter on Wednesday, according to Music Business Worldwide.

Distributors will be able to use the new metadata tags to indicate AI involvement in specific components of a song. These components include artwork, music tracks, lyrical compositions, or music videos.

The system relies on labels and distributors to manually opt-in and flag their use of AI. Spotify is implementing a similar approach.

Other streaming services, such as Deezer, are attempting to use in-house AI-detection tools, but accuracy remains a challenge.
