Amazon announced a new “Sassy” personality option for its AI assistant Alexa+ on Thursday.
The update allows adult users to enable a more irreverent conversational style, expanding the customization features available for the generative AI assistant. The Sassy option joins previously launched personalities including Brief, Chill, and Sweet.
The Sassy personality is designated as “adults only” and requires users to complete additional security checks in the Alexa app before use. Amazon stated the option will not be available when Amazon Kids is enabled.
When enabled, the Alexa app warns that the Sassy style uses explicit language, triggering a security check such as a Face ID scan on iOS. The app warns the style could contain “mature subject matter.”
Alexa+ described the Sassy style as “help first, judge always,” delivering answers with wit, roasts, reality checks, and charm. The assistant stated the style is “honest, sharp, and funny.”
Amazon clarified the Sassy option will not include explicit sexual content, hate speech, illegal activities, personal attacks, or content that could cause harm. The company stated the move is part of efforts to make Alexa+ more customizable in the generative AI era.
This update follows a broader industry trend of experimenting with tones, styles, and personas for personalized AI assistants. Amazon launched the Sassy option on Thursday.
Amazon Alexa+ is the company’s upgraded artificial intelligence assistant. The assistant previously launched Brief, Chill, and Sweet personality options last month.
