The U.S. Department of State announced on Thursday that it has approved a potential sale to Ukraine of equipment to support the Hawk missile system for an estimated $108.1 million, UNN reports.

The U.S. Department of State has made a determination approving a possible Foreign Military Sale to the Government of Ukraine of Hawk missile system sustainment and related equipment. The estimated total cost is $108.1 million,

– the State Department said in a statement.

As indicated, the Government of Ukraine has requested to "purchase trailers with lifting masts; significant modifications and maintenance; spare parts, consumables and components, as well as repair and return; U.S. Government and contractor engineering, technical and logistics services; and other related elements of logistical and program support for FrankenSAM HAWK missile systems."

"This proposed sale will support the foreign policy and national security objectives of the United States by improving the security of a partner country that is a force for political and economic stability in Europe," the statement said.

The proposed sale, the State Department noted, "will improve Ukraine’s capability to meet current and future threats by further equipping it to conduct self-defense and regional security missions with a more robust integrated air defense capability." "Ukraine will have no difficulty absorbing these articles and services into its armed forces," the statement reads.

"The proposed sale of this equipment and support will not alter the basic military balance in the region. The proposed sale will not have an adverse impact on U.S. defense readiness," the State Department indicated.
