The Kremlin on Thursday dismissed as false a report claiming that the Chinese military allegedly secretly trained about 200 Russian soldiers in China late last year, some of whom later fought in Ukraine. This was reported by Reuters, according to UNN.

Details

A Russian-Chinese agreement from July 2023, reviewed by Reuters, stipulated that about 200 Russian military personnel would undergo training at military facilities, including in Beijing and the eastern city of Nanjing.

The agreement also provided for hundreds of Chinese military personnel to undergo training at military facilities in Russia.

When asked about this report on Thursday, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated: "A great deal of false information is published in the European and American press. This is a problem we face, and such fake reports should be treated with caution."

Beijing claims to maintain a neutral stance in the conflict in Ukraine and seeks to position itself as a peace mediator. President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed peace efforts regarding Ukraine during a meeting in China this week.

Reminder

As Reuters previously reported, about 200 Russian military personnel underwent secret training on the use of drones at bases in China. Some of them reportedly returned to fight against Ukraine at the front.
