On Wednesday, May 20, Chinese leader Xi Jinping held an informal meeting with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin in Beijing. During a conversation over tea, they also touched upon Ukraine, as well as bilateral relations, UNN reports with reference to Xinhua.

Details

Xi Jinping noted that for many years he has maintained close contact with Vladimir Putin, jointly promoting the deepening and strengthening of comprehensive strategic partnership relations between China and Russia in a new era, helping neighborly and friendly relations between the two countries take deeper root in the hearts of the people, according to Chinese media publications.

The two heads of state also exchanged views on issues such as the crisis in Ukraine

– the publication reports.

At the same time, as reported by Bloomberg, China denies that it has supplied weapons to any side of the war in Ukraine, stating that it strictly controls the export of dual-use goods.

While Beijing views Moscow as a useful partner in weakening U.S. dominance and promoting a so-called multipolar world order, China appears determined not to identify too closely with the risks of Putin's war in Ukraine, especially as it seeks to present itself globally as a force for stability

– the Bloomberg publication states.

As a reminder

During the summit in Beijing, China and Russia issued a joint criticism of U.S. nuclear policy and President Donald Trump's plans to create the Golden Dome missile defense system.
